The New Madrid Historical Museum displays artifacts and exhibits that tell the history of this area from the 8th through the 20th century. Our centerpiece is a magnificent exhibit on the New Madrid Earthquakes of 1811-12. We also have the following on display: Native American Artifacts that predate European expansion into North America and tell the story of the Mississippians, who lived here from the 8th to the 14th century. Civil War artifacts and information on the Battle of Island Number 10, which was fought near here in 1862 . We also have a nice collection of antiques from the 18th and 19th centuries that help to tell the story of life in a small frontier town.
